2019 has been a year of firsts for us at Route 1 Print. In terms of production, we installed the UK’s first Landa S10P and we moved into our new warehouse facility. Within our office though, we nominated our first Charity of the Year!
Fundraising has always been a key part of our culture, bringing our team together and having fun in the process. This year, however, we decided to take things further and dedicate our efforts to a worthy, local cause.
At the beginning of the year, we pledged to raise £5,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice – a charity that provides vital support to families across South Yorkshire. Through various bake sales, quizzes, and external activities organised by Bluebell Wood we are proud to say that we have doubled that amount!
Our total currently stands at over £11,000 and we still have a couple of months of the year left! Check out some of our highlights…
Sunrise on Snowdon
On June 15th, 16 trepid explorers set forth to climb the highest mountain in Wales, Mount Snowdon. This wasn’t just an ordinary hike, though, because the team started their climb at midnight, aiming to reach the summit in time to witness the sunrise.
The weather was against us and unfortunately, the view from the top was obscured by cloud. Not that this dampened our spirits. The hikers were all deservedly proud of their achievement regardless. This expedition helped us raise £2,294 for Bluebell Wood.
Dragon Boat Racing
For our more competitive colleagues, we entered the Manvers Lake Dragon Boat race on July 13th. We had enough staff to fill two teams, one of which only narrowly missed out on the final. Our rowers managed to raise £1,151 in sponsorships – another great contribution!
At the end of July, we held our own supersize, internal fundraiser – something which we hope to become an annual event. We raised £1,187.67 through a combination of our murder mystery, car wash, bake sale, auction, head shaving, leg waxing, and sponge-a-manager event.
Our most recent fundraising effort was the most daring of all! 5 brave colleagues did a sponsored sky dive, raising a total of £2,614 between them!
Mark Young, our Head of Route 1 Print, was among them and he had this to say, “Everyone was really nervous on the day but the team at Hibaldstow were fantastic with us. It was such a great experience and, of course, it allowed us to raise a lot of money for a brilliant cause, Bluebell Wood! The work they do there is incredible and we just want to say thank you to everyone who supported us by donating.”
We’d like to extend that thanks to everyone who supported us for any of our events this year. And, of course, thank you to all our team members for their brilliant efforts over the year. Watch this space to see what we get up to with a new charity in 2020!
