As the print world gears up for another busy season, we’ve been hard at work, updating our factory in preparation. This summer, we’ve invested an incredible £3 million in new equipment as well as upgrading our existing machines.
We’ve installed some fantastic new pieces! Keep reading to learn all about how we’ve increased our factory’s capacity, shortened turnaround times, reduced single points of failure, and still managed to maintain our high quality standards with this year’s installations.
Truepress Jet 520HD & Tecnau Combo
Continuing our move towards ink jet technology, our headline investment of 2018 has to be our two Screen Truepress Jet 520HDs. Giving us fantastic quality at fast turnarounds, these presses bridge the gap between digital and litho technology.
Not only is the Truepress highly efficient as a digital printer but that efficiency is amplified further by being a continuous-feed press. Our new Tecnau Unwinder U9 feeds one continuous stream of paper through the press which is then trimmed by a new Tecnau Cutstack C23. All this is completed in a single, inline process!

Plus, what the Truepress gives us in efficiency, it also matches in quality. The press uses top grade ink heads to apply precise coverage and uses JetInspection cameras to give real-time quality assessments.
At the start of the year, the plan was to only buy one Tecnau and Truepress stream. However, when we saw the results from our new instalments on the 7th of May we just knew we had to have another. We ordered our second within the month!

This inline combination represents a real game-changer for us in increasing our capacity for several products. Plus, with unmatched lead times, we hope to offer you faster turnaround times on more popular products.
Booklet Binding Department
Another benefit from the Truepress is that is can deliver booklets already collated. To keep up with the increased output, all three of our booklet binding departments have seen improvements too.
With a new Horizon BQ 480, we can more than double our output.
With a new Horizon BQ 480, we can more than double our output of perfect bound booklets. This latest generation of perfect binders from Horizon can produce up to 800 booklets an hour – that’s two and a half more than our BQ470!
These new additions in our stapled booklet department will increase our capacity up by almost 40%.
Over in stapled booklets, we’ve purchased two more Horizon Stitchliner Mark IIIs to accompany the three we bought last year. These new additions bring our stapled department up to speed with the latest technology, increasing our capacity up by almost 40%.
And finally, a Renz AP360 to punch holes ready for binding.
And finally, for our wiro-bound booklets, we’ve invested in a Renz AP360 to punch holes ready for binding. With its automated set-up, we can bring more efficiency into our wiro-binding department.
prestigeFOLD NET 52
Elsewhere in the factory, we saw a need for a first-class folder to give us a better finish on high spec folded products.
With Christmas and New Year in the not so distant future, we expect to see an increase in demand for greetings cards. We want to be able to meet our customers’ needs in delivering quality, beautifully finished work.

The prestigeFOLD can neatly fold stock up to 350gsm. By creasing the stock before folding, the prestigeFOLD can give a very precise fold and prevent your artwork from cracking. You can be sure your folded items will be delivered to a quality standard with this new investment.
HP Scitex 11,000
Our final investment was not to bring in a new piece of equipment but actually to reinstate machinery we already own.
We decommissioned our second HP Scitex 11,000 early last year, when our sister brand, Bluetree POS, closed down. However, we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for roller banners and other large format display products in the last year and have decided to bring it back into play.
We’ve seen a significant increase in demand for roller banners and other large format display products.
Not only does reinstating our second Scitex mean that we can keep up with the demand, but it also removes a worrying single point of failure. Previously, when our first Scitex has gone down, we’ve struggled to meet our customers’ needs. Now though, we will always have equipment available to produce your orders.
This year, our summer of investments doesn’t stop when summer finishes! We’ve got a few more exciting things in the pipeline that we’d love to tell you about. Until they become a reality though, watch this space!
